Link-building for SEO doesn’t always have to be about actively seeking quality sites and requesting backlinks. Here are some link-building tips:
- Write content for your own website first
- Try to get listed in the top human-edited directories e.g. DMOZ/org as well as local and regional ones
- Ask recognised experts to write a ‘guest post’ on your blog
- Reciprocal links are OK for SEO! It is natural for complementary websites to link to one another.
- Avoid Spam. If you are undertaking a link-building programme ensure it’s gradual; Google looks for sudden (unnatural) spikes in links to a site and may penalise you
- Write great content as opposed to lots of decent content
- Syndicate your RSS feed, not your article content. Instead of publishing your duplicate content everywhere, keep the content on your site and publish your site’s feed on services like twitter, facebook and technorati
- Be patient; don’t check rankings each day expecting to see results
