Social Media NZ – Facebook’s Like Button

by admin on July 28, 2010

Facebook’s like button is part of it’s Opengraph suite of tools which is centered around connecting people’s web surfing habits with their social circles.  The ‘Like’ button creates a connection between a person and the content of the internet. They can be added to any web page.

Opengraph will enable websites to instantly personalise content based on the visitor’s interests.

A real world example

If you visit say an online health retailer, most provide a selection of their latest reviews etc.  With Opengraph you could see which of your friends have purchased what products, see their reviews and which products they recommend.
All good marketeers regognise the power of word-of-mouth and this is simply word-of-mouth facilitated online.

As an aside, Google has visibility to people’s likes so you can be sure it is using that information to determine website rankings.
