Before you rush into Social Media you should consider the following:
- What’s the business case and expected return on investment?
- Should you try and create your own community / social network or leverage others?
- Do you ‘go to them’ or do they come to you? Or both?
- Do you take your goods to the market/conversation or do you persuade them to visit your shop?
- How far upstream in the purchase decision path do you want to play? (attention, desire, interest, action…)
- Are you happy to be just a ‘till’?
- Are you happy that you’re not part of the conversation, let alone control it?
- Are you thinking hard about ‘content’ or ‘community’ as a way to market and sell better?
- How can you cost effectively scale social media – how do you keep things personal but scale cost effectively?
- How can you cope with the 24hr real-time shopping environment?
